What is Windows Embeddes Standard 7?

Windows Embedded Standard 7 is the next generation product, part of the Windows Embedded Standard product family that delivers components based on Windows 7 OS. It makes the latest features from the desktop OS, e.g., IE8, WMP12, .Net FW 3.5, DLNA features, Play to and Home Group. It also includes the latest UI framework, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) to build differentiated experiences on Specialized devices.

Where is Quebec? Is it same as Windows Embedded Standard 7?

“Quebec” was the interal Microsoft code name for Windows Embedded Standard 7. Code names are used for products before they becom available. Moving forward Microsoft will start using the branded name “Windows Embedded Standard 7″ instead of the code name.

Where can I get Windows Embedded Standard 7?

Windows Embedded Standard 7 is now available as a RC (Release Candidate). It’s available for download at http://connect.microsoft.com/windowsembedded.

Where can I learn more details about the product?

See WindowsEmbedded.com for more details.

Is this the RC release? Can I ship devices with the release?

No this is not RTM release. RC is a pre-release version of the final product and as such customers cannot commercially ship devices with this release.

Windows 7 -XP mode

Windows 7 加入了虛擬電腦技術，讓Windows 7作業系統，以CPU提供的硬體虛擬技術，提供虛擬的XP環境，讓Windows 7向下相容，許多以XP開發的應該程式也可以在Windows 7上順暢執行。想要享受Winodws 7 - XP mode的相容性，目前支援Professional、Enterprise和Ultimate版本，要確認CPU是否支援虛擬硬體技術，Intel叫 VT (Virtual Technology)，而AMD叫Virtualization；同時也要確認BIOS是否支援此項功能喔!

整理體驗Windows XP Mode的步驟如下：

  1. 硬體須CPU支援，並且在BIOS支援並開啟虛擬功能。微軟測試工具http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0ee2a17f-8538-4619-8d1c-05d27e11adb2&displaylang=en
  2. Windows 7 須為：Professional、Enterprise或Ultimate版本(Home Basic、Home Premium不支援)。
