Windows 7 加入了虛擬電腦技術，讓Windows 7作業系統，以CPU提供的硬體虛擬技術，提供虛擬的XP環境，讓Windows 7向下相容，許多以XP開發的應該程式也可以在Windows 7上順暢執行。想要享受Winodws 7 - XP mode的相容性，目前支援Professional、Enterprise和Ultimate版本，要確認CPU是否支援虛擬硬體技術，Intel叫 VT (Virtual Technology)，而AMD叫Virtualization；同時也要確認BIOS是否支援此項功能喔!
整理體驗Windows XP Mode的步驟如下：
硬體須CPU支援，並且在BIOS支援並開啟虛擬功能。微軟測試工具http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0ee2a17f-8538-4619-8d1c-05d27e11adb2&displaylang=en
Windows 7 須為：Professional、Enterprise或Ultimate版本(Home Basic、Home Premium不支援)。
安裝完Windows 7後，需另行下載Windows Virtual PC及Windows XP套件(Free)。http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
